Get Rid of Fruit Flies

Fruit Fly Trap

Summer is coming around the corner and everyone’s favorite little pest will be invading our homes in search of tasty treats, like bananas, peaches, and apples. All the fruit we store on the counter that fruit flies tend to be attracted to. There are few different treatments around the web suggested to get rid of fruit flies. They’re going to come, but we can at least trap them and kill the buggers!

Now to get rid of fruit flies try the following:
Pour 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap into a small cup. The vinegar attracts the fruit flies and the dish soap retains the surface tension of the vinegar and traps the bugs in the fluid and they drown! To finish this off wrap the cup with cling wrap and poke a few holes in the wrap to further trap any fruit flies to their vinegary death.

If the vinegar isn’t working some people have suggested red wine, or even a user over at chow suggest cooked potato peels.

It is not necessary to add the plastic wrap but a clear glass bowl as shown is the ticket to successful fly destruction.

It seems to me that the Saran Wrap simply slows the flies finding the holes.

My setup was a little different, but this works! I didn’t use any soap, but I did obviously fill some cheap plastic bowls with vinegar and poke holes in the lids. It takes a few days, but my flying pest problem is gone. Also, I used this for gnats, not fruit flies.
